Control PC Games With a Xbox 360 Controller
Please note that this will work with a wired and wireless controller. But, If you have a wireless controller you will need the gaming reciever so that the PC can communicate with the controller.
- Plug your wired or wireless Xbox 360 controller into a usb port.
- Download and extract JoyToKey to location "C:/Program Files/JoyToKey". (You'll be creating a new folder) NOTE: If you are using Windows 64bit be sure to install in the location "C:/Program Files (x86)/JoyToKey" otherwise JoyToKey will not work!
- In more cases, when you have plugged in the controller, Windows installed the drivers already. To find out, skip this step or play it safe and download and install Microsoft Xbox 360 Controller Drivers and then restart your PC. The controller lights should be on when the restart is complete, if it is not you did not install the drivers properly.
- Depending on what game you are wanting to play with your Xbox 360 controller, you will need different configuration files. I have only made a few premade files so if the game your wanting to play with the controller is not listed, you will need to either modify one of the ones I made or create a brand new configuration using JoyToKey. The following links listed are to pages with control information and a configuration file that I have made for specific games listed below.
- Drift City Control Information and Configuration
- GunZ Control Information and Configuration
- War Rock Control Information and Configuration
- Once you have downloaded one of the premade configuration files, or if you made your own file, save the file to the JoyToKey folder you have made under Program Files eariler.
- Run the JoyToKey program (located in the JoyToKey folder) minimize, and then start the game you wish to play the Xbox 360 controller with and it should start working. If your not getting any response from your controller, make sure it is turned on.
- Everytime you want to play with your Xbox 360 controller, you will need to run JoyToKey. I would recommend creating a shortcut to JoyToKey. To do so, go to the JoyToKey folder under Program Files and right click the JoyToKey Application. Under "Sent To" select "Desktop (create shortcut)" and a shortcut to JoyToKey should appear on your desktop.
Oh and another quick note; If the controller is way to sensitive you can change the sensitivity in the JoyToKey program under the "Others" tab where it says "Threshold for input". I have it about 60% for Drift City (a racing game) and 15% for Gunz and War Rock (FPS games) and it works very nice.
Thats it, your done! Thanks for using my guide. If you have any questions or problems please use the contact page.
